Die Kippa ist eine Kopfbedeckung männlicher Juden. Diese kreisförmige Mütze ist aus Stoff oder Leder, zuweilen reich verziert. Sie bedenkt nur den Hinterkopf. Manchmal wird sie mit einer Metallklammer an den Haaren befestigt. Es gibt sie in allen Variationen überall zu kaufen – auch auf Basaren und Märkten.
Üblich ist die Kippa für Männer beim Gebet, überhaupt an allen Gebetsorten wie beim Synagogenbesuch oder auf jüdischen Friedhöfen. Gläubige Juden zeigen damit ihre Ehrfurcht und Demut Gott gegenüber. Dem Zentralrat der Juden zufolge ist sie „Zeichen dafür, dass Gott über dem Menschen steht“.
Orthodoxe Juden tragen die Kippa den ganzen Tag. Ist keine Kippa vorhanden, so erfüllen auch eine Mütze, ein Hut oder zur Not selbst ein Taschentuch denselben Zweck.

The kippah is a head covering worn by male Jews. This circular cap is made of fabric or leather, sometimes richly decorated. It covers only the back of the head. Sometimes it is attached to the hair with a metal clip. You can buy them in all variations everywhere – also at bazaars and markets.
It is usual for men to wear the kippa at prayer, and in general at all places of prayer, such as synagogues or Jewish cemeteries. Devout Jews use it to show their reverence and humility towards God. According to the Central Council of Jews, it is a “sign that God is above man”.
Orthodox Jews wear the kippah all day. If there is no kippah, a cap, a hat or even a handkerchief will serve the same purpose.

La kippah es un cubrecabezas que llevan los judíos varones. Este gorro circular es de tela o cuero, a veces ricamente decorado. Sólo cubre la parte posterior de la cabeza. A veces se sujeta al pelo con una pinza metálica. Puede comprarse en todas sus variantes en cualquier lugar, también en bazares y mercados.
Es costumbre que los hombres lleven la kippa para orar y, en general, en todos los lugares de oración, como las sinagogas o los cementerios judíos. Los judíos creyentes la llevan para mostrar su reverencia y humildad hacia Dios. Según el Consejo Central de los Judíos, es una “señal de que Dios está por encima del hombre”.
Los judíos ortodoxos llevan la kippah todo el día. Si no hay kippah, una gorra, un sombrero o incluso un pañuelo sirven para el mismo fin.
