Und ganz gewiss an jedem neuen Tag

Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945) ist ein bedeutender evangelischer Theologe und Widerstandskämpfer gewesen. Am 19. Dezember 1944 schrieb er aus einem Gestapo-Gefängnis in einem Brief an seine Verlobte Maria von Wedemeyer das Gedicht „Von guten Mächten wunderbar geborgen“, das weltberühmt und auch vielfach vertont wurde.

Ohne Gerichtsverhandlung wurde er ins Konzentrationslager Flossenbürg verlegt, wo er zum Tode durch den Strang verurteilt und am 9. April 1945 im Alter von nur 39 Jahren hingerichtet wurde.

Von guten Mächten treu und still umgeben,behütet und getröstet wunderbar,so will ich diese Tage mit euch lebenund mit euch gehen in ein neues Jahr.

Von guten Mächten wunderbar geborgen,erwarten wir getrost, was kommen mag.Gott ist mit uns am Abend und am Morgenund ganz gewiss an jedem neuen Tag.

Noch will das Alte unsre Herzen quälen,noch drückt uns böser Tage schwere Last,ach, Herr, gib unsern aufgescheuchten Seelendas Heil, für das Du uns bereitet hast.

Lass warm und still die Kerzen heute flammen,die Du in unsre Dunkelheit gebracht,führ, wenn es sein kann, wieder uns zusammen.Wir wissen es, Dein Licht scheint in der Nacht.

And certainly on every new day

Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945) was an important Lutheran theologian and resistance fighter. On 19 December 1944, he wrote the poem “Wonderfully protected by good powers” from a Gestapo prison in a letter to his fiancée Maria von Wedemeyer, which became world-famous and was also set to music many times.

He was transferred to Flossenbürg concentration camp without a trial, where he was sentenced to death by hanging and executed on 9 April 1945 at the age of just 39.

The last stanza of the poem reads:
Wonderfully protected by good powers,
we confidently await whatever may come.
God is with us in the evening and in the morning
and certainly on every new day.

 

Y ciertamente en cada nuevo día

Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945) fue un importante teólogo protestante y combatiente de la resistencia. El 19 de diciembre de 1944 escribió desde una prisión de la Gestapo el poema “Maravillosamente protegido por las buenas potencias” en una carta a su prometida Maria von Wedemeyer, que se hizo mundialmente famoso y al que también se puso música en numerosas ocasiones.

Fue trasladado al campo de concentración de Flossenbürg sin juicio previo, donde fue condenado a morir en la horca y ejecutado el 9 de abril de 1945 con sólo 39 años.

La última estrofa del poema dice así:
Maravillosamente protegidos por buenos poderes,
esperamos con confianza lo que venga.
Dios está con nosotros cuando anochece y al amanecer
y ciertamente en cada nuevo día.

Das neue Jahr ist noch jung, daher poste ich dieses Zitat von Dietrich Bonhoeffer*:

Gott kennt den ganzen Weg, wir wissen nur den nächsten Schritt und das letzte Ziel.

Ein wirklich ermutigendes Wort bei aller Ungewissheit aufgrund der aktuellen Weltsituation. Ich wünsche allen Besuchern meiner Homepage ein neues Jahr voller Zuversicht und Gottvertrauen!

* Der Theologe Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945) kämpfte gegen Hitler und den Nationalsozialismus – ohne Waffen. Besonders wichtig waren ihm die Bergpredigt, die Nachfolge Jesu und dass Denken, Reden und Tun übereinstimmen. Er wurde am 9. April 1945 im KZ Flossenbürg hingerichtet. Vier Monate zuvor sandte er seiner Verlobte das inzwischen vertonte und sehr geschätzte Gedicht Von guten Mächten treu und still umgeben.

The new year is still young, so I post this quote from Dietrich Bonhoeffer*:

God knows the whole way, we only know the next step and the final destination.

A truly encouraging word in the face of all the uncertainty due to the current world situation. I wish all visitors to my homepage a new year full of confidence and trust in God!

* The theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945) fought against Hitler and National Socialism – without weapons. The Sermon on the Mount, the following of Jesus and the concordance of thinking, speaking and doing were especially important to him. He was executed in the Flossenbürg concentration camp on April 9, 1945. Four months earlier, on December 19, 1944, he sent his fiancée the poem By loving forces wonderfully sheltered, which has since been set to music and is highly esteemed.

Du bist nicht allein!

Ich sagte zu dem Engel, der an der Pforte des neuen Jahres stand: „Gib mir ein Licht, damit ich sicheren Fußes der Ungewissheit entgehen kann.“ Aber er antwortete: „Geh nur hin in die Dunkelheit, und leg deine Hand in die Hand Gottes! Das ist besser als ein Licht und sicherer als ein gut bekannter Weg.“ (Minnie Louise Haskins)

Ich wünsche allen, die das lesen, dass sie jeden Tag im neuen Jahr diese starke und liebevolle Hand spüren. Sie trägt! Auf sie können wir uns restlos verlassen!

¡No estás sólo/sola!

Le dije al ángel que estaba en la puerta del año nuevo: “Dame una linterna, para que salga salvo de la inseguridad”. Zusammenhalten – bei aller Unterschiedlichkeit!

„Eine starke Gemeinschaft hält Widersprüche aus – wenn wir einander zuhören. Und wenn wir Respekt voreinander haben.“

Gott helfe uns, auf einander und auch auf Ihn zu hören!

Zu diesem Thema kommt mir die sogenannte „Goldene Regel“ aus der Bergpredigt von Jesus in den Sinn: „Behandelt die Menschen stets so, wie ihr von ihnen behandelt werden möchtet.“ (Matthäus 7,12 Hfa)

 

Standing together – in spite of all differences!

“A strong community can withstand contradictions, if we listen to each other. And if we have respect for each other.”
(Chancellor Olaf Scholz in his New Year’s address on Dec. 31, 2021)

May God help us to listen to each other and also to Him!

On this subject, the so-called “Golden Rule” from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount comes to mind: “Always treat people as you would like them to treat you.” (Matthew 7:12)

¡Seguir unidos, a pesar de todas las diferencias!

Una comunidad fuerte puede soportar contradicciones, si nos escuchamos unos a otros. Y si nos respetamos mutuamente.

Que Dios nos ayude a escucharnos unos a otros y también a Él.

Sobre este tema, me viene a la mente la llamada “Regla de Oro” del Sermón de la Montaña de Jesús: “Trata siempre a las personas como te gustaría que te trataran a ti.” (Mateo 7:12)

Ich sagte zu dem Engel: „Gib mir ein Licht, damit ich festen Schrittes in die Ungewissheit des neuen Jahres schreiten kann.“ Aber er antwortete mir: „Geh hinein ins neue Jahr und lege deine Hand in Gottes Hand. Das ist mehr wert als ein Licht, und sicherer, als den Weg im Voraus zu kennen.“ (Mündlich überliefert/edp)
