Ich mag den Schweizer Chor Animato (& Symphony) sehr. Eines ihrer Lieder trägt den Titel „This Was Not The End“ (Das war nicht das Ende). Dieser Satz hat mich zu folgender Meditation inspiriert:
Is It Really the End?
I’m a big fan of the Swiss choir Animato (& Symphony). One of their songs is titled “This Was Not The End.” That line inspired the following meditation:
Adam and Eve—the first human couple—had reached the end. They had broken their trust with God, consciously turned away from the Giver of life, and could therefore expect only the foretold (eternal) death. But that was not the end: The promised Redeemer would open the door back to the Father’s house—for them and for all of humanity. You don’t need to hide from God, because Jesus has already paid for your guilt and reserved a place for you in the restored paradise.
Abraham faced the end of a dream, the end of a promise, when he raised his arm with the knife over his long-awaited son Isaac. But that was not the end: God provided a substitute sacrifice—first a ram, and centuries later, His own Son. Trust God, even when you don’t understand His guidance (or His silence) in your life. He is good and He will provide.
Joseph felt the clay beneath his feet and looked up at a shaft of light far above him—too high to ever climb out. But that was not the end: God had great plans for him: after a detour through prison, he became second-in-command over all Egypt! God has a plan for your life too—though it rarely follows a straight path. Trust Him on the detours and in the valleys.
He saw the goal of his life’s journey, which had cost him so much strength and patience, but was not allowed to enter the Promised Land. On Mount Nebo, his unfinished journey seemed to come to an end. But that was not the end: Moses was the first to experience the resurrection of the faithful, and in God’s presence he found more than rest from the hardships of his earthly travels. Do you sometimes feel that your service for God, for His Church, or for others has been (almost) in vain? That’s not for us to judge—and we don’t have to! One day, God will show you what He accomplished through you.
Martha and Mary were heartbroken that Jesus hadn’t come sooner to heal their sick brother Lazarus. Now he had been dead four days—his body already smelled. But that was not the end: One word from the Creator was enough, because He is the resurrection and the life. Jesus weeps with you (as He once wept at Lazarus’ tomb) when you mourn someone you’ve loved. We cannot understand why He allows pain in the lives of those who trust Him. But He walks beside you today—and one day, He will explain the reasons behind His ways.
God’s enemy rejoiced when he saw Jesus bleeding, dying on the cross: “Victory!” he thought. But that was not the end: It was the glorious beginning of a new era. Everyone who is reconciled to God through Jesus’ death is set free, no longer lost, and receives eternal life. God’s enemy does not want you to rejoice in that freedom. So when you feel weak or fail, remember: Satan no longer has power over you. You belong to Jesus—and that means you’re on the winning side!
The road from Jerusalem to Emmaus had never felt so long or so steep. The two men had given up hope, laid their expectations to rest. But that was not the end: The risen Lord opened their eyes and lit a fire in their hearts that gave wings to their feet. Disappointment has a surprising gift: it frees us from illusion. It hurts at first—but it can be healing. The most important thing is knowing Jesus is walking with us.
What may seem like the clear end to us can, through our Creator and Redeemer, become a new beginning full of glorious promise—because nothing is impossible for God. (See Luke 18:27)
¿Es realmente el final?
Me gusta mucho el coro suizo Animato (& Symphony). Una de sus canciones se titula “This Was Not The End” (Esto no fue el final). Esa frase me inspiró la siguiente meditación:
Estaban al final, Adán y Eva, la primera pareja humana: habían roto su confianza en Dios, se separaron conscientemente del Dador de la vida, por lo que solo podían esperar la muerte (eterna) anunciada. Pero eso no fue el final: el Salvador prometido les abriría –a ellos y a toda la humanidad– la puerta de regreso a la casa del Padre. No necesitas esconderte de Dios, porque Jesús también pagó por tu culpa y ha reservado para ti un lugar en el paraíso restaurado.
Abraham vio claramente el final de un sueño, el final de una promesa, cuando extendió su brazo con el cuchillo en la mano sobre su tan esperado hijo Isaac. Pero eso no fue el final: Dios proveyó un sacrificio sustituto –primero un carnero, siglos después su propio Hijo. Confía en Dios, incluso cuando no comprendas su guía (o su silencio) en tu vida: Él quiere lo mejor para ti y cuida de ti.
José sentía el barro bajo sus pies y solo veía un agujero brillante –¡demasiado alto! Nunca podría salir de allí. Pero eso no fue el final, porque Dios tenía grandes planes para él: después de un tiempo en la prisión, ¡llegó al segundo puesto más alto de Egipto! Dios también tiene un plan para tu vida, aunque rara vez siga una línea recta. Confía en Él, también en los desvíos y en los valles.
Tenía ante sus ojos la meta de su viaje de vida, que le había costado tanta fuerza y paciencia, pero no se le permitió entrar en la tierra prometida. En el monte Nebo terminó aparentemente su viaje inconcluso. Pero eso no fue el final: Moisés fue el primero en experimentar la resurrección de los creyentes y pudo, cerca de Dios, recuperarse más que plenamente de las fatigas de su viaje terrenal. ¿Piensas a veces que tu servicio a Dios, a su Iglesia o a tu prójimo ha sido (casi) en vano? No podemos juzgarlo –¡y no tenemos que hacerlo! Dios te mostrará algún día todo lo que logró a través de ti.
Marta y María lamentaban que Jesús no hubiera llegado antes para sanar a su hermano enfermo, Lázaro. Ahora llevaba cuatro días muerto en la tumba. Ya se podía oler. Pero eso no fue el final: una palabra del Creador fue suficiente, porque Él es la resurrección y la vida. Jesús llora contigo (como lo hizo ante la tumba de Lázaro) cuando lloras por un ser querido. No podemos comprender por qué permite el sufrimiento en la vida de los que confían en Él. Pero hoy está a tu lado, y algún día te mostrará y explicará los motivos de su guía.
El enemigo de Dios se regocijó al ver a Jesús morir sangrando en la cruz: “¡Ganado!”, pensó. Pero celebró demasiado pronto, porque eso no fue el final, sino el glorioso comienzo de una nueva era: todo aquel que se reconcilia con Dios mediante la muerte de Jesús es liberado y ya no se pierde, sino que recibe la vida eterna. El enemigo de Dios no quiere que experimentes la alegría de esta liberación. Recuerda eso cuando te sientas débil y falles: Satanás ya no tiene poder sobre ti. ¡Perteneces a Jesús y estás del lado del vencedor!
El camino de Jerusalén a Emaús nunca les había parecido tan largo y empinado a los dos hombres. Habían perdido la esperanza, enterrado sus expectativas. Pero eso no fue el final: el Señor resucitado abrió sus ojos y encendió un fuego en sus corazones que les dio alas a sus pies. Ser decepcionado tiene un lado positivo: nos libera de una ilusión. Duele al principio, pero es sanador. ¡Lo importante es saber que Jesús está a nuestro lado!
Lo que en la vida nos puede parecer un final claro, puede convertirse –por medio de nuestro Creador y Redentor– en un nuevo comienzo con perspectivas gloriosas; ¡porque para Dios nada es imposible! (cf. Lucas 18:27)
Sie waren am Ende, Adam und Eva, das erste Menschenpaar: Sie hatten Gott ihr Vertrauen gekündigt, sich bewusst vom Geber des Lebens getrennt, konnten daher nur noch mit dem angekündigten (ewigen) Tod rechnen. Aber das war nicht das Ende: Der versprochene Retter würde ihnen – und allen Menschen – das Tor zurück ins Vaterhaus öffnen.
Du brauchst dich nicht vor Gott zu verstecken, denn Jesus hat auch für deine Schuld bezahlt und einen Platz im wiederhergestellten Paradies für dich reserviert.
Abraham sah das Ende eines Traumes, das Ende einer Verheißung, deutlich vor Augen, als er seinen Arm mit dem Messer in der Hand über seinem sehnsüchtig erwarteten Sohn Isaak ausstreckte. Aber das war nicht das Ende: Gott sorgte für das stellvertretende Opfer – zuerst ein Widder, Jahrhunderte später seinen eigenen Sohn!
Vertraue Gott, auch wenn du seine Führung (oder sein Schweigen) in deinem Leben nicht verstehst: Er meint es gut mit dir und sorgt für dich!
Josef spürte den lehmigen Boden unter den Füßen und sah nur ein helles Loch – viel zu hoch! Da würde er niemals herausklettern können. Aber das war nicht das Ende, denn Gott hatte mit ihm Großes vor: nach einem Zwischenaufenthalt im Gefängnis den zweithöchsten Posten Ägyptens!
Gott hat auch für dein Leben einen Plan, der aber selten geradlinig verläuft. Vertraue ihm auch auf den Umwegen und in den Tälern!
Er hatte das Ziel seiner Lebenswanderung vor Augen, die ihn so viel Kraft und Geduld gekostet hatte, durfte aber das versprochene Land nicht betreten. Auf dem Berg Nebo endete wohl seine unvollendete Reise. Aber das war nicht das Ende: Mose durfte als Erster die Auferstehung der Gläubigen erleben und sich in der Nähe Gottes von den Strapazen seiner irdischen Reise mehr als erholen.
Denkst du manchmal, dein Einsatz für Gott, für seine Kirche oder für deine Mitmenschen sei (fast) umsonst gewesen? Das können wir nicht beurteilen – und müssen es auch nicht! Gott wird dir eines Tages zeigen, was er alles durch dich bewirken konnte.
Marta und Maria bedauerten, dass Jesus nicht früher gekommen war, um ihren kranken Bruder Lazarus zu heilen. Jetzt lag er schon vier Tage tot im Grab. Man konnte es riechen. Aber das war nicht das Ende: Ein Wort des Schöpfers genügte, weil Er die Auferstehung und das Leben ist.
Jesus weint mit dir (wie damals vor Lazarus‘ Grab), wenn du um einen geliebten Menschen trauerst. Warum er das Leid im Leben derer, die ihm vertrauen, zulässt, können wir nicht begreifen. Aber heute steht er dir bei und eines Tages wird er dir die Hintergründe seiner Führung zeigen und erklären.
Der Feind Gottes jubelte, als er Jesus blutend am Kreuz sterben sah: „Gewonnen!“, dachte er bei sich. Aber er jubelte zu früh, denn das war nicht das Ende, sondern der glorreiche Beginn einer neuen Ära: Jeder, der sich durch den Tod Jesu mit Gott versöhnen lässt, wird frei und geht nicht mehr verloren, sondern bekommt das ewige Leben.
Der Feind Gottes gönnt dir die Freude über diese Befreiung nicht. Denkt daran, wenn du schwach wirst und versagst: Satan hat keine Macht mehr über dich. Du gehörst Jesus und bist daher auf der Seite des Siegers!
Der Weg von Jerusalem nach Emmaus war den zwei Männern noch nie so lang und so steil vorgekommen. Sie hatten ihre Hoffnung aufgegeben, ihre Erwartungen begraben. Aber das war nicht das Ende: Der auferstandene Herr öffnete ihre Augen und entfachte ein Feuer in ihren Herzen, das ihren Füßen Flügel verlieh.
Enttäuscht zu werden hat eine positive Seite: Wir werden von einer Täuschung befreit. Es tut zunächst weh, ist aber heilsam. Hauptsache, wir wissen Jesus an unserer Seite!
Was uns im Leben wie das klare Ende vorkommen mag, kann durch unseren Schöpfer und Erlöser ein neuer Anfang mit herrlichen Aussichten werden; denn für Gott ist nichts unmöglich! (Vgl. Lukas 18,27)
