Heute vor 40 Jahren, am 8. Dezember 1980, wurde John Lennon vor seinem Haus in New York von einem geistig verwirrten Attentäter erschossen. Der weltweit berühmte Sänger und Gitarrist der Beatles wurde nur 40 Jahre alt. Er erlebte nicht mehr das, wovon er träumte. In seinem Lied „Imagine“ aus dem Jahr 1971 sang er von einer geeinten Welt ohne Grenzen, ohne Gier, ohne Hunger. Eine Welt, in der alle Menschen sich als Brüder und Schwestern betrachten, die in Frieden miteinander leben.

Kannst du dir so etwas vorstellen?, fragte er in seinem Lied, das weltweit Spitzenpositionen in den Charts erreichte, und rechnete damit, dass man ihn für einen Träumer hielt.
Ja, ich kann mir das alles vorstellen und noch viel mehr! Allerdings unter anderen Bedingungen. Denn die Welt wird nicht anders werden, solange deren Bewohner die selben bleiben.

Ja, es wird keine Hölle geben, weil das Böse nicht mehr existiert. Auch der Verursacher alles Bösen wird für immer beseitigt sein.
Es soll keinen Himmel und keine Religion mehr geben, sang John Lennon. Auch das kann ich mir vorstellen: Einen extra Himmel über uns braucht es nicht geben, weil der Himmel dann in uns ist, wenn wir bei Gott sind, am Ziel unserer Bestimmung als Geschöpfe des Allmächtigen. Und Religion? Wer braucht sie? Schon jetzt ist Religion nur das, was kluge Menschen um das Leben, Wirken und Predigen des Jesus von Nazareth herum gebastelt haben. Oder um Buddha, ober um Mohammed, oder … Diese Gerüste, diese Hilfskonstrukte werden verbrennen, unzerstört und geläutert wird der Glaube bleiben, das Vertrauen, das wir in Jesus Christus gesetzt haben und das uns mit ihm verbindet.

Er, nicht Kirche, Wissenschaft oder Politik, schafft diese neue Welt, nach der sich im Grunde jeder sehnt, der das Leid in dieser Welt, sei es das eigene oder das unzählbarer Menschen, nicht mehr erträgt. Jesus Christus verspricht: „Ich mache alles neu!“ (Offenbarung 21,5) und als Folge davon gibt es kein Leid, keine Krankheit, keinen Tod mehr. Zu schön, um wahr zu sein, hätte dieses Versprechen ein Mensch gegeben und nicht Gott selbst.

Unsere Welt wird nicht anders werden, solange wir unverändert bleiben. Aber wir können uns von Gott verändern lassen. Im Kern. Und weil diese Veränderung der Menschen längst begonnen hat, sich täglich ausbreitet und nicht mehr zu bremsen ist, hat der Himmel bereits Einzug in diese Welt gehalten. Vollenden wird es Jesus, wenn er – wie versprochen – wiederkommt, um uns dorthin zu bringen, wo er zu Hause ist. Der Traum ist keine Utopie!

No more rampages; no more crazies, drunks or terrorists running over people in the pedestrian zone; no more Corona pandemic; no more corruption, no more mass layoffs, no more unemployment, no more bullying … Unthinkable? Utopian?

40 years ago today, on December 8, 1980, John Lennon was shot dead in front of his home in New York by a mentally disturbed assassin. The world-famous singer and guitarist of the Beatles was only 40 years old. He no longer experienced what he dreamed of. In his song „Imagine“ from 1971 he sang about a united world without borders, without greed, without hunger. A world in which all people consider themselves brothers and sisters living together in peace.

Can you imagine such a thing?, he asked in his song, which reached top positions in the charts worldwide, and reckoned that people thought he was a dreamer.
Yes, I can imagine all this and much more! But under different conditions. Because the world will not be different as long as its inhabitants remain the same.

Yes, there will be no hell, because evil no longer exists. Also the causer of all evil will be eliminated forever. There shall be no more heaven and religion, sang John Lennon. I can imagine that too: There need not be an extra heaven above us, because heaven is in us when we are in the presence of God, at the goal of our destiny as creatures of the Almighty. And religion? Who needs it? Even now, religion is only what clever people have built around the life, work and preaching of Jesus of Nazareth. Or around Buddha, or around Mohammed, or … These scaffolding, these auxiliary constructions will burn, only the faith will remain undestroyed and purified, the trust that we have placed in Jesus Christ and that connects us with him.

He, not church, science or politics, creates this new world, for which basically everyone longs, who can no longer bear the suffering in this world, be it his own or that of countless people. Jesus Christ promises: „I will make everything new! (Revelation 21:5) and as a result there is no more suffering, sickness, or death. Too good to be true, this promise would have been made by a man and not by God himself.

Our world will not change as long as we remain unchanged. But we can let God change us. In core. And because this change of people has long since begun, is spreading daily and can no longer be stopped, heaven has already entered this world. Jesus will fulfill it when he comes again – as promised – to take us to where he is at home. The dream is not utopia!

En su canción „Imagine“ de 1971 cantó sobre un mundo unido sin fronteras, sin codicia, sin hambre. Un mundo en el que todas las personas se consideran hermanos y hermanas viviendo juntos en paz.

¿Te imaginas algo así?, preguntaba en su canción, que llegó a los primeros puestos de las listas de éxitos de todo el mundo, imaginándose que la gente pensaría que era un soñador.
Sí, yo puedo imaginar todo esto y mucho más! Pero bajo condiciones diferentes. Porque el mundo no será diferente mientras sus habitantes sigan siendo los mismos.

Sí, no habrá infierno, porque el mal ya no existe. Incluso el originador de todo el mal será eliminado para siempre. No habrá más cielo ni religión, cantaba John Lennon. También me lo imagino: No tiene por qué haber un cielo extra sobre nosotros, porque el cielo estará en nosotros mismos cuando estemos en la presencia de Dios, al llegar a nuestro destino como criaturas del Todopoderoso. ¿Y la religión? ¿Quién la necesita? Ya hoy, la religión es sólo lo que gente inteligente ha construido alrededor de la persona de Jesús de Nazaret. O de la de Buda, o de la de Mahoma, o… Estos andamios, estas construcciones auxiliares se quemarán, sólo la fe sobrevirá, purificada, la confianza que hemos puesto en Jesucristo y que nos une a él.

Él, no la iglesia, la ciencia o la política, crea este nuevo mundo, que básicamente todos aquellos anhelan, que ya no puede soportar el sufrimiento en este mundo, ya sea el suyo propio o el de un sinnúmero de personas. Jesucristo promete: „¡Haré nuevas todas las cosas!“ (Apocalipsis 21:5) y como resultado no habrá más sufrimiento, enfermedad o muerte. Sería demasiado bueno para ser verdad, si esta promesa hubiera sido hecha por un hombre y no por Dios mismo.

Nuestro mundo no cambiará mientras permanezcamos como somos. Pero podemos permitir a Dios a que él nos transforme. Radicalmente. Y como esta transformación ha comenzado hace tiempo, se está extendiendo diariamente y ya no hay quien la frene, el cielo ya ha entrado en este mundo. Se completará cuando Jesús regrese, como prometió, para llevarnos a su hogar, a nuestro destino. ¡El sueño no es una utopía!
